on the beach with pelicans and terns
Alabama has several public gardens. Recently, I visited two in Mobile, Bellingrath Gardens and the Mobile Botanical Gardens.
I have known about Bellingrath Gardens for years but this was my first visit. It is located west of Mobile in the town of Theodore. This was a private estate that first began opening its garden gates to the public in the 1930's. This is a beautiful display garden without labels.
Mobile Botanical Gardens
This is a comparatively young garden, dedicated in 1976. Azaleas and camellias are important collections. The garden is open from dawn to dusk. It looks as though the Garden tries to maintain some plant labels but they were not well-labeled when I was there in September 2012.
