Our Mission
We help gardeners across the Southeastern coast (zones 8–9) discover and grow plants that can handle salt air, sandy soil, high humidity, wind, and heat. Our goal is to provide real-life, practical advice—not generic tips—for creating successful and sustainable gardens in this unique region.
Who We Are
Southeast Garden is led by a lifelong gardener based in coastal North Carolina, with input from horticulturists, native plant lovers, and everyday gardeners across the region. Every recommendation is based on hands-on experience, real trial and error, and a passion for learning from the land.
What You’ll Find on This Site
We offer detailed plant pages, each one tested in real Southeastern coastal conditions. You’ll find growing tips, sunlight needs, zone recommendations, photos, and personal notes from experience. We also publish seasonal gardening calendars, climate-specific design ideas, and solutions for common problems like salt spray, hurricane damage, drought, or deer pressure.
Our Approach
We only recommend plants we’ve grown ourselves—usually for multiple seasons. We take into account microclimates, soil types, and coastal winds. Whether it’s a native plant, a drought-tolerant perennial, or an ornamental tree, our focus is on what survives—and thrives—here.
We believe in practical, low-maintenance, eco-friendly gardening using organic methods, native and adapted species, and techniques that respect the land and climate.
